Sermons Online - From Our Parishes

Sermons will be published throughout the year, bringing you closer to our church life here in Lincolnshire. We hope the time spent on this part of our website will be enriching and rewarding.

Christ the King - Lincoln Cathedral
John 23
A few years ago I received in the post a flyer for a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar. ‘Easily the best version I have seen ‘said the critic in the Walsall Observer- obviously an expert in the field. In these days when we live in an increasingly secular society it is interesting that the person of Jesus still has a fascination. Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ showed the power of the story still to enthral many people.
Whatever He Tells You - Holy Trinity, Micklegate, York
John 2: 5
As Catholic Christians in the Church of England we find ourselves in such a dilemma over the issues that have the power to break the Church of England permanently. Those same issues which have brought us to this place today. I suspect that we are tired of the eternal squabbling; of the political machinations of the life of General Synod; of the rebuffs offered to our hard working representatives on the Revision Committee.
The Holy Family - St Nicholas, Boston
Luke 3 vs 1-10
You see the Holy Family are a splendid example of cooperation. They had done what most Jews did, especially when they had a son who was twelve years old, since Jewish boys became men at that age, they attended the Passover at the Temple.   On the long trip back to Nazareth and their carpenter's business Jesus spent more time listening and asking questions. When they found him he went home with them them and was normally obedient to the Jewish family tradition.
The Feast of Corpus Christi - Worstead
John 6 v 55
Norfolk has its saints; Margery Kempe and Julian of Norwich, spring to mind as two who might have known this church. My home county and diocese of Lincolnshire has its Holy Ones; Guthlac of Crowland, Gilbert of Sempringham, Hugh of Lincoln – But Lincolnshire has the claim to a twentieth century Saint; Bishop Edward King – Bishop of Lincoln from 1885-1910.
The One Who Visited Jesus by Night - Deanery Evensong
John 3 v 13-20
Tonight’s New Testament Reading (John 3 13-20) Is part of Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus. Nicodemus we are told in John’s account of the burial of Jesus (John 19 v 36) brought spices for the anointing and is described as the ‘one who came to Jesus by night.’
